Hello and good day, Fiona's friends.
My friendship with Fiona was built on our shared love of EDM back in the mid-2010s, when the genre was still considered somewhat underground in Trinidad.
Every Friday, we looked forward to a 4-hour radio show that became the highlight of our week. We would be glued to our radios—and, if possible, our laptops—to hear the latest tracks being dropped live on Hott 93 FM. The show was originally called The Electrik Avenue with Tony Hydro, and later DJ Shane Luvglo joined the lineup with his own show called The Bass Factor with special guest DJ Alex the Executioner.
What made Luvglo's music so special was his values. He never promoted songs that glorified drug use, and at his events, all hallucinogenic drugs were strictly prohibited. Only alcohol was permitted. He made a conscious effort to keep his patrons and fans safe, and we still managed to get completely lost in the uplifting energy of his incredible vocal trance selections.
Fiona only learned this year that Shane and I actually dated for about a year. We remained friends afterward because I still wanted to be part of the close-knit fan community that always got to hear his newest mixes first. Thankfully, he eventually moved his work online, and his entire collection can now be found on Mixcloud. Many people knew him as DJ Shane Luvglo, but he later changed his name to DJ Shane Sura, and all of those treasured mixes have been preserved there.
For years, I was the keyboard warrior of our Bass Factor fan group, posting animated dancing cats, dogs, and GIFs whenever a favourite track dropped during the live show. My excitement and conversations are still preserved in those chat logs dating back to 2012.
We attended several EDM events around the country over the years. One that stands out was at Darrin's on the Avenue. Shane was interviewed before his set, and I spent the evening doing photography simply for the love of the art. Another photographer had been officially hired for the event, but my images were purely for fun and creative expression. One of my favourite memories is Genie capturing a beautiful light-painted photograph of me using glow sticks.
EDM has been an integral part of my life. I have always kept downloaded mixes on USB drives in my car, and I have backed up many of my favourites to the cloud because I never want to lose those memories.
Attached is the slideshow video I created featuring Chad, Fiona, my husband, and moments from our wedding, along with footage from the boat ride. I haven't started editing the photographs from that day yet because of a family emergency that required my full attention, but the images will be published soon.
I wanted to share this post, the slideshow, the Mixcloud account, and some of my favourite mixes from what I consider the golden era of EDM for anyone who wishes to relive those incredible moments.

On Mixcloud, both free and paid listeners have limited plays before supporting the artist becomes necessary. It remains one of my all-time favourite mixes.
For those who love the 1980s, I also have an incredible mix by Vic Latino that is simply fantastic.

As I grow older, I have come to realize that music is far more than sound—it is a time machine. A single song can transport us back to a particular night, a familiar face, a long drive with friends, or a season of our lives that we thought we had left behind.
The EDM community gave us more than great music. It gave us friendships, laughter, unforgettable adventures, and a sense of belonging. We were part of something special during a time when every new mix felt like a discovery and every Friday night felt like an event. Those memories remain priceless.
Today, when I listen to those same tracks, I am reminded that while people may move on and life inevitably changes, the music endures. It carries our stories, our youth, our joy, and the people who shared those moments with us. The beats may fade into silence, but the memories they created continue to echo through our lives.
Thank you, Fiona, for being part of that beautiful chapter. Thank you to everyone who danced, listened, laughed, and made those years so memorable. May these mixes bring back a little nostalgia, a few happy tears, and a reminder of just how fortunate we were to experience that golden era together.
