I had the pleasure of meeting Mr Akram Khan after the Massy 5k around the Savannah on 6th April 2019.
He agreed to answer a few questions about his experience as an avid short distance runner and participant in marathons across Trinidad and Tobago.
SNPhoto108: What challenges you may face as a runner?
Mr Akram Khan: My major challenge is fitting in training with my regular job and the responsibilities of everyday life.
SNPhoto108: What do you eat to stay fit and healthy?
Mr Akram Khan: I basically foods that are high in fibre, protein and complex carbs and try to avoid simple sugars
SNPhoto108: What are your exercise goals, do you have a personal trainer who helps you get to your fitness goals?
Mr Akram Khan: My goal is just to be the best version of myself and always strive to be better the next day. I train on my own and try most times to mix up my routines.
SNPhoto108: What are your feelings before, during and after a race?
Mr Akram Khan: There’s always a sense of excitement before any race and eagerness to measure your progress against the competition.
During the race is always where you’re tested physically and mentally and your focus on that given day,
When the race is over, although physically fatigued is the best part. Some people call it endorphins but there’s this sense of contentment and euphoria... where for that moment you forget about the pain and exhaustion and u just cross that line with a sense of accomplishment.
SNPhoto108: How many races have you completed for the year and how many are you going to do for 2019?
Mr Akram Khan: I’ve down about 4 so far, and once injury free about 8 more.
SNPhoto108: What positive message do you have to say to anyone reading about your story?
Mr Akram Khan: Physical fitness is the best investment anyone can make in their lives. Running/ jogging is a sport that almost anyone can participate in no matter their level of physical fitness. It’s just about making the decision to begin the journey... it’s quite rewarding
Below is a Photo of Mr Akram Khan.
